- Fresh (saeng) makgeolli is live-fermented: 10-30 day shelf life, needs refrigeration, and actively carbonating bottles can burst in checked bags — buy pasteurized (salgyun) versions to fly
- Almost none of these small-brewery bottles are exported; abroad you only see pasteurized Kooksoondang
- Alcohol limits: 1L into the US, 2L into India; soju like Chamisul is ₩1,900 at any convenience store if you just want the icon
