- The test: real wax-resist batik (cap or tulis) is equally vivid on both sides of the cloth; printed fabric has a pale reverse
- Cap batik shows slight stamp-repeat misalignments — that's authenticity, not a flaw
- Most cloth sold in Bali is made in Java (Solo/Pekalongan) — normal and traditional, but sellers may claim 'Bali handmade'
- A sarong doubles as required temple dress, beach towel and packing wrap
