Jade bangle, Yau Ma Tei Jade Market
A century-old market ritual and a great HK$500-800 souvenir — as long as you buy the experience, not an 'investment'.
Price: 800 HKD (Realistic haggled price for an attractive tourist-grade (treated/B-grade) bangle; certified Grade-A jadeite starts in the thousands and climbs steeply)
Where to buy: Jade Market (Kansu St, Yau Ma Tei) for fun-tier pieces; for serious jade, licensed jewellers (Chow Tai Fook, Chow Sang Sang) or dealers who provide lab certificates

- SCAM-AWARE: assume everything at the stalls is treated (B/C-grade) unless it comes with a Hong Kong gem-lab certificate ('fei cui, Grade A' from HKJSL/HKGL) — the hairline-thin cert card is the only thing that makes a jade price mean anything
- Opening prices are 3-5x; haggle hard, pay cash, and treat sub-HK$1,000 pieces as souvenirs, not investments
- A stall story about 'grandmother's Grade-A imperial jade for HK$2,000' is always false — real imperial-green Grade A trades in the hundreds of thousands
- Customs: jadeite itself is unrestricted (it's not CITES-listed), but keep the receipt/cert for valuation
