VAT refund (DIVA). Spain abolished the old €90.16 threshold — any purchase from €0.01 qualifies if you reside outside the EU. Ask the store for a tax-free (DIVA) form, then before checking bags at your last EU exit point scan the form's barcode at a DIVA kiosk (Madrid-Barajas, Barcelona-El Prat, etc.) for digital customs validation — no stamp queue needed. Collect the refund via Global Blue/Planet/store card, cash desk, or the retailer's own scheme. Goods must leave the EU within 3 months of purchase.

Customs

• US: CRITICAL: jamón ibérico and ALL pork/meat products are prohibited from entering the US in passenger baggage — CBP will seize them and can fine you (typically $300+), even vacuum-sealed with receipts. Buy USDA-approved Spanish jamón from US importers instead. Cheese (hard, commercially packaged), olive oil, saffron, turrón and wine/sherry are fine to declare. Personal exemption $800; 1L alcohol duty-free (more is usually allowed with small duty).
• IN: Duty-free allowance ₹50,000 plus 2L of alcohol — a bottle of sherry or vermouth fits, but multiple Loewe/luxury items above the allowance attract ~38.5% duty if declared. Meat products like jamón technically require a sanitary import permit and can be confiscated — carry at your own risk. Saffron, olive oil, turrón and fashion within allowance are unproblematic.
